"Minors Score With Big Sales" Vol.8,issue 17,p.9

This article goes in depth and discusses the recent popularity increase in minor league baseball. There has been a major increase in not only ticket sales, but in merchandise sales as well.

According to the article, the total income of merchandise as of June of this season was 28.9 million, if this pace keeps up, this will be the sixth consecutive season in which an increase in merchandise revenue has shown.

So, the question is why are the sales of minor league merchandise increasing so consistently?

The article suggests a few reasons. First, major league players are more regularly appearing in minor league games to complete rehab assignments. These games allow for major leaguers to get back in shape after an injury, without actually playing a major league game. With the influx of big league stars to minor league teams, a lot more exposure is given, and fans see these unique minor league clubs.

Second, the minor league teams have much more unique mascots, colors, teams names, etc. mascots like the muckdogs, the lug nuts, the diamond jaxx, and many others give teams more originality, and allow for many different and exciting merchandise ideas.

My hometown of Altoona, PA is home to a AA minor league team, the Altoona Curve. The name is unique, the colors (green, maroon, black, white) and unique, and the merchandise sold is unique. I can definetely say that Curve gear is just as nice, and in some cases nicer, than much of the major league merchandise I see at stores.

Minor league games are also a fun atmosphere, the games are more family oriented, and they definitely provide a place to go and relax with your friends, and you don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get a ticket. I've seen some Pittsburgh Pirate players rehab with the Curve, and its fun to see the minor league team get that exposure.

Perhaps the major leagues could take a lesson from the minors in terms of game atmosphere, and fun merchandise. The article says that "why buy a hat with NY on it, when you can buy a hat with a character on it." Perhaps more characters and more fun could help popularity in the majors as well.

SMG vice president Doug Thorton, manager of the Louisiana superdome, is homeless along with the rest of the victims from the hurricane. Twenty four thousand people fled to the superdome to take cover from the hurricane. When Thorton arrived at the superdome, there had been four deaths or maybe more, rapes and thefts. One guy stole a gun from the National gaurd and shot him in the leg. Thorton had to leave the Superdome because it was not safe for him. Thorton and otbers were there to see if the Superdome can be rebuilt. Engineers and Architects are being brought in, but before anyone starts to rebuild, the water has to be drained because of toxics and the dome has to be decontaminted. The roof itself will cost 6 to 7 million to repair. Thorton believes that the dome can be repaired and fixed and done by early year 2006.
I believe that the superdome can be rebuilt, it is going to take a lot of time and I dont think that it is going to be done by early months of 2006, but it can be done. Thorton needs to be concentrating on getting the water drained and everything cleand up inside. It's terrible that the superdome is destroyed but everything will work out in the end and it will be rebuilt.

The article is about how two sport agents are similar. Drew Rosenhaus and Todd France. Drew Rosenhaus is the big time sport agent that represents the high profile players. Todd is starting to find his place in the sport agenting world. He represents some big name players also. Those two may have some similarities, but their personalities are different. France goes unnoticed from the media unlike Rosenhaus, but France is in the media for a law suit with Career Sports and Lonnie Cooper. France gets whats fair for his clients. This a good article becuase it shows that not all of the sport agents out there are for themselves. France is there for the players and Rosenhaus is there for the money.

This article talks about how the NFl plans to have its first international regular season game in Mexico city between the Arizonal Cardinals and the San Fransico 49ers. Depending on the results of the game, the league could make a non-U.S., regular-season contest an annual tradition. It also talks about how other foreign cities are trying to place bids for regular season games. Places such as London Germany, Toronto and Tokyo. They also talk about how they are voting on keep the NFL europe project going because it lose $40 million annually in the last two years.

My opinion is that it's an good idea. I say this because it will bring more worldwide attention to the NFl. It will also bring in more revenue from appareal and media. And we might be able to get some good players from NFl Europe. So i think its a good idea and they should have more regular seasons game in other countries and keep NFL europe.

The article is about the similarities between to sport agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Todd France. Todd Frnace is a beginer agent who is feeling his way around in order to find out how the business world works, he has dealt with a few big time athletes but not that many. Drew Rosenhaus on the other hand has dealt with many big time athletes because if his popularity and standards, he deals with high profile players. The two are similar in many ways , but u tell the difference between the two because of thier personalities. France tries to stay away from the media unlike Rosenhaus who loves the media. France stays away from the media because he has a law suit with Career Sports and Lonnie Cooper. France tries to make sure that his clients get treated fairly. I like this article because it shows the contrast between very similar agents.
