NHL rights put OLN in big leagues

I thought this artical was interesting because it delt with the business involved in sports. The NHL moved their rights from ESPN to the OLN network. The NHL should watch itself because after bull riding joined this network their ratings dropped. If the NHL is not concerned about ratings, and only cares about a big contract, where is professional sports going?

Cingular keeps up pace in sports, signs exclusive deal with Jayski.com.

I like the idea of being able to find out how your favorite race car driver did in a race, when you were unable to watch the race for yourself. Another plus is being able to be connected to the race almost anywhere you are at.
Although I don't think it's a good idea that cellphones these days can do almost anything. Because it takes the fun out of being at the race track yourself. So there are good and bad things about this deal.

NHL rights put OLN in big leagues

OLN signing the NHL I don't think is as big of a deal as this article is making it out to be. Hockey is barely a sport in the United States, nobody but serious hockey fans missed it last season. This is also not a good deal for the NHL. It will be shown on a channel who's claim to fame is the Tour de France and professional bull riding. The only good thing is that the NHL will be getting more money then it would have from ESPN.George Bodenheimer, ESPN's President says that his company will thrive on the competition with OLN. Only because everyone knows OLN doesn't have a chance to compete with ESPN. There is a clause in the deal that either party can end the deal after two seasons, i wouldn't be surprised if that happens.

NCAA drops the ball in the nickname game

This is a good article, but the NCAA is wrong. From my point of view it is ridiculous, that the NCAA wants colleges with the nicknames that are "hostile or abusive". Almost every school that has a nickman that is "hostile or abusive" is doing it out of respect for the Native Americans. Chief Osceola from the Seminole Tribe, thinks that it is an honor the school would use their tribe as a mascot. Do you think he would ride out on the field before every game if he though it was "hostile or abusive"? I mean whats next PETA stepping in and saying that is wrong for Universities to use and animal as their nickname and mascot.

It takes full energy to reach the top

This artical is very fasinating, it strikes the points of hard work paying off in buisness and the sports grounds. There is no room for slothing and winning in the same space. It tells how Allen Fox took over a tennis team in Pepperdine and made it a national threat for over a decade but when he got sided off into a newly found buisness the team suffered as well.

This says alot about not just the tennis team in Pepperdine and Allen Fox but as a society you work for what you get. If you work hard and ethically well the pay off will come.

Departure of high-voltage Shapiro ends an era at ESPN

Mark Shapiro became the head of programming in the fall of 2001 at ESPN, but has announced his departure at a critical stage for the ESPN network. He has decided to leave the network October 1st to become the CEO of RED ZONE, an investment group that will manage Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder's stake in Six Flags theme park that Shapiro is expected to turn into a king like Walt Disney Co. Shapiro got to the top of ESPN at such a young age because of his confident and brash style brought to negotiations, unapologetically laying out terms for league comissioiners 20 years older than he and then sharing his frank and unfiltered opinions with the press. Once having to report to his older peers who now report to him say they don't mind it because he is good at what he does. I am curious to how his engagement with Snyder is going to be, thus both being young tycoons with the same sense of desire, will they clide? I am glad to see that an article is wrote about a young person that is so successful in such a huge market, it gives hope to myself to get to the top early in my career and i hope he makes Six Flags as big as Walt Disney if not bigger.

I didn't know that the Asian population was growing so fast. I support global expantion for sports because it will bring in a new wave of athletes.

NCAA drops the ball in the nickname game..

When reading about the different NCAA and professional teams, such as the: redskins, orangemen, florida state seminoles etc., I dont think that they are being racial of ethnic groups. I know that this happened to our college we were once the Indians and now we are the Bears.
The members of the Florida state Seminole Tribe are alright with the mascot and name of the football team. I dont see any harm or disrespect of using the names Indians, Redskins, Orangemen. In no way do I see this being "hostile or abusive".

"Friday Night Rights"
This article deals with how Fox Sports Net is recording a 65
episodoe series dealing with friday night lights at high school
football games all over america. This article caught my eye because
it showcases Montour high school, a school district located in the
suburbs of Pittsburgh. The article stated that the project has generated $65,000 worth of goods from dick's sporting goods and purchased the school a new $40,000 scoreboard, not to mention Dick Butkkus. The series also will showcase Hoover High from Alabama whose boosters last year alone raised $850,000 for the athletic program. This series will shed light upon america's main entertainmetn on friday nites...high school football. I think this project will do great things for the schools that it travels to and i also am excited to watch it.

"NBA Hopes to See Some Green from St. Patrick's Day Jerseys"

The article talks about how teams like the Bulls, Knicks, and Celtics to sport St Patrick day spirited jerseys. The only other sport to use the holiday to help uniform sales is Baseball, when teams wear green hats during spring training games. If the green jersey idea is a success it won't help the league as much as it will help certain teams. The bulls and Knicks rank in the top 5 in merchandise sales and the celtics aren't far behind in 7th. In this case the rich get richer. I would like to see other teams try this idea like the Grizzlies, or Jazz. If it helps any team it will most likely help Chicago because of how big of event St, Patricks day is, in Chicago. Time will only tell how good of an idea this actually is.

"AFL collectible helmets to soon hit the market"

The Arena Football League signed a four-year agreement with Schutt Sports that not only includes the first ever collectible-hlemet marketing plan as well as supplying the league with equipment. Schutt Sports got the deal after Riddell's contract was up after the 2005 AFL season. The AFL views this as a great way to get into the youth football market and grow the leagues retail business with the sales of the collectible helmets and having Champs Sporting Goods selling replica jerseys. We will see if Schutt's and Champs' can get the AFL rolling in the retail market like the NFL has been for many years. Schutt's will also get on the field advertising to help promote sells for the company. I would like to see this because I like to see the underdogs come out on top!

"NBA hopes to see some green from St. Patrick's Day jerseys"

The NBA wants to have select teams wear special jersey for St. Patrick's day. Some teams that have been named are the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and the Chicago Bulls. They are hoping that this will help the merchandise sale, but I don't feel like this will help them very much improve the merchandise sale. The MLB and the AHL have tried this before, they aren't very many people walking around wearing those special St. Patrick's Day.

Minors score with sale

This is a very important actical expecially for us who would like to involve ourselves in proffesional sports teams, it says that the sales of minor league merchandise is on the up rise. This isn't a real big surprise to me because of the internet and poeple wanting what they usually always want and that is to be unique. Just as the Muckdogs general manager says it "Minor league designs are so much more unique" "Why get a hat with an NY on it when you can get something with a character on it". This type of merchandise is primarally being marketed toward little league teams and the adolecent sports players/sporting good advocates. This says a whole lot to me as a future marketer in the sports world, and that is push what makes some one fashonably unique.

I think that this is a good opportunity for both the AFL and Schutt Sports. Making collectible helmets to sale along with the jerseys is a good way to make money. This is helping the AFL attract fans and it's giving Schutts a reputation. Both are growing in retail. Schutt will also have signs on the field to help advertise and get more customers.
Whatever works to help bring in more money I think is a good idea. The AFL will be able to get into youth football market, also helping out with the retail.

"Modell's extends sponsorship with Jets"

Modell's can help the different teams to sell there shirts, pants, and so on. The main thing i don't like about the Modell's is that there will be a shirt that they only have and no other store will. The part i don't like about that is the price could be really high and there's no way to get it for an other price other then what Modell's wants.
The sweepstakes is a good idea because that will get fans feeling there is a chance for them to when and want to deal through Modell's.

For the NBA to make anything new for the fans should be profitalbe. THe NBA seems to be on the rise with all of the young explosive players. Everyone is always looking for a unqiue way to celebrate thier team. It would also be popular with the younger fans who are always in the market for jerseys. i am interested to see what happens with this event and if they will do more of this in the future. maybe it would be possible for the teams to recongize some other holidays or events.

This article is about an expansion project being produce by the Phoenix Suns. Thwy plan on building a playhouse to put next to the arena. They are doing this because they believe that their is not enough things for children to do during snd before the course of the game. They had to buil it over a parking lot, which meant that they would be losing 45 $10 parking spaces. They weren't worried because the money made from the play hous ewould make up for it. I believe that this a very interesting tactic. The are taking advantage of an oppurtunity to entertain the youth, but still make money off of it. It is a win win situation for both society and the corporate world, and I commend who ever came up with this idea.

Putting the bite back in the browns. volume 8, issue 18

I didn't notice in what kind of shape the browns were in. I know that there not the best team in the NFL and don't get the best ratings. It's sad to see sponserships not wanting to spend as much money as they did the first time trying to sponser the browns. like gaint eagle the store but the most money in history as a food store to sponser a NFL team. But now they don't want to pay that much. i'm not a browns fan but i would like to see them go up in the ranks and be advertised some more. Also i thought it was interesting to read about the browns moving and how the fans didn't agree with that. fans are a huge deal in football cause a lot of money comes from them.

This article is about Nascars new deal with Monogram Food Solutions, a full line of meat products, which will be coming out on Sept. 18. The meat will include hot dogs, bologna, smoked sausage, lunch meats and bacon. Last year NASCAR signed with Castellini Group, distributor of vegetables and fruits. Castellini ships the food out with NASCAR logo on it. NASCAR also signed partnership with ZT Group, first NASCAR licensed computer, fans can buy the officially licensed PC model, notebook Model, and two LCD monitors.
I think that this is good for NASCAR because they are making money off the partnerships with the food and computer products, plus this is giving them more publicity to show that NASCAR is growing.

Sponsors can't wait to get season started
Volume 8 Issue 18

This article talked about many differnt companies that are unpatiently waiting for the kickoff the the new season of NFL. They are nameing these types of overly abondent sponsors "Road to" XL. A few of the large companies that are involved in this marketing skeem are Sprint, Pepsi, Coors Light, GM, Motorola, EA Sports, Dairy Management Inc.,Visa, Canon, Campbell's Soup, and Gatorade. Not are they only directing there new adds and promotion to the season but they are going as far as directing it towards the Super bowl. This is in the fourth season of what they call "NFL Kickoff" and they are celebrating more sponsor activity than ever before.

This is something that I like to see because it shows to the future Sports Marketers that companies are more than willing to put there name out there for sports related activities. For the most part these companies are not sports related, the main objective for these poeple is to increase revenue and the way they feel fit is to support the NFL. Although this is the most widely watch sporting event in the United States it still shows that poeple want to pay a price to market there product in a sport related venu.

Kellog expands Olympic ties
This article talks about how Kellogg cerearls made a deal with the 2006 & 2008 Olymipic Games as well as the PanAmerican Games to be their official cereal, cookies, and crackers. This deal means Kellogg is in the midlle group of sponsors which include Allstate, Hilton Hotels, Jet Set Sports and Nike. These sponsors are typically required to make a minimum multiyear commitement of $10 Million. U.S. Olympic athletes will be showcased on the boxes. The US Olympic and Kellogg have been paired together for thirty years.
I think this is great news for the Olympics. They will gain so much exposure by being on all of these boxes. Kids and grown ups all over the country eat cereal everyday and many enjoy reading the box when they do so.

"NCAA drops the ball in the nickname game"

In this article they talk about how the NCAA has put down new guidelines that says that colleges are not aloud to use Native American tribes as nicknames. I think that this a very interesting idea because it gives some good view points from both sides of the situation. First off the nickname of a university should not be "hostile or abusive". The article states one of its main points on how the NCAA included The FSU Seminole nickname in that category and then dropped it because of the local Seminole tribe supporting it. In my opinion the NCAA should just leave this situation alone simply because it is a harmless issue that should be taken more lightlu. The names of the team have no negative aspects, thaey are just intemidating names used as a tactic to scare the other team.

Sep 12-18 issue page 28. "In Katrina's wake, sports must rise to challange." This article talks bout the tragedy of hurricane katrina's and it's lasting affects on pro sports teams in the nfl and nba. Although the overall contributions to this tragedy have been good, nothing specific has been done by the nfl and nba to help the cause. A question is posed saying where is our live aid? I think that the leagues do need to set up some kind of program like live aid where the contribitions go to the victams. Although to their credit the nfl recently this past monday had a similar concept. However, more needs to be done by commisioners and others to help. Athletes involved most are millionaires. The leaders of the industry should require more contributions from the athletes and themselves.

"The anti-dopin issue: It's a complex one, so settle in for the long haul"

In this article, the author, Andrew Zimabalist writes of how the anti-doping issue is going to take a very long time before it is resolved. I feel he makes three important points in this article.
The first is that there is no urine test for the steroid, HGH. The second is, none of the major sports allow blood testing because it is considered "unacceptably invasive. The final key point he makes is how the fourth amendment mandates that making athletes taking a blood test, w.out a warrant, is illegal.
In my opinion, steroids may never be out of porfessional sports because there is no blood test for HGH and one never be found. Plus the fourth amendment is huge, because even if the mandated a blood test, every players association would take it to court and win 100% of the time. Unless a judge overrules the constitution, steroids will nevr be completely out of sports. Like Zimbalist says in the last paragraph, ". . . If members of Congress are truly concerned about the effect of professional athlete doping on the habits of America's youth, then they should think about devoting energy and resources to drug education. I agree, "let's break the eggs before before they can hatch."

Sports Building Momentum for Turin

This article is about gaining sponsorship and fans for the sports that participate in the winter olympics. Before the winter olympics there will be a show called ICE 2005 which will showcase the bobsled, curling, and luge. They have had this show two other years and last years ratings were better than that of a colege basketball game. Winter sports do not have the fans and sposorship as do other sports.

I think that these would be interesting sports to watch. If I were a marketer I would want to sponsor them and then advertise these sports. I think if bobsled could make it on tv it would be a huge hit, because it brings something new to the table instead of the same old sports people are watching on tv. What would also help is if you tried to do a realiy series on one of the sports and follow one teams around for its training and games. I think it would be a good investment to help support these teams and sponsor them.

Gentleman, start your holiday greetings volume 8 issue 20

Eclectik a card company recently obtained a license from Dale Earnhardt Inc. to sell two custom designed holiday cards. The cards will feature the late Dale Earnhardt and his son. The cards will be sold in boxes of 12 for fifteen dollars and will be available starting at the end of the year. The card for Dale Earnhardt Sr. will have the legacy star and his legacy logo. His son's will have a number 8 and his signature. The company want to add other drives to the company's sport portfolio.
This is a good way for the card company to make money. Selling greeting cards with some of nascars most popular names will attract fans to buy them. The comapny wans to also make cards with other nascar names on them. This is also nice for fans to buy cards and send them out to friends and family that are fans also. It is nice remebering the late Dale too.

'Glogs' brings color commentary to teh Web

CBS SportsLine.com is taking things to the next level with online update scores and statistics. They're looking to have 30 to 40 comments blogged per quarter to give fans an insight that raw statistics cannot. CBS SportsLine.com will also provide original video content from CBS Sports. The company started the glogs with the beginning of the college football season but soon will expand into postseason baseball, the NBA and NHL. It is also a possiblity the NFL will join this group. I think this is a great idea for a number of reasons. First, it can give a fan various information that they previously might have not been informed of. Second, fantasy leagues are becoming more and more recognizable across the country and glogs like these can give them their up to date information every two minutes. That is a fantasy league player's dream come true. This idea will enhance the game experience for every fan in the future. I think this concept will be a success be used quite often in the future.

Freddy Adu, scores a spot on the cover of EA's newest soccer game.
Volume 8 Issue 21..

Freddy Adu a break out star in soccer who just turned 16 is the youngest athlete to ever appear on the cover of an EA Sports video game.
Adu has endorsement deals with other companies, a 1 milllion contract with Nike, Campbell's soup, Pepsi and a BMW dealership in virginia. All added up to equal 2 million dollars.
For a 16 year old to have all of this I dont think that he will have to worry about anything anymore. He is playing a sport that he loves and he is making lots of money doing it. Also all the endorsements that he has is allowing him to have a good reputation, getting his name out there, and he;s making money. I think that Freddy Adu is very lucky to have all of this at the age of 16.

Trip to Baton Rouge shows power of Sports to touch lives.

The Orlando Magic went to Baton Rouge for a couple of days taking 6,000 pounds of relief supplies to the people left homeless from the floodings. They were joined by many other helicopters bringing relief. They visited a church housing 700 worn out citizens, who were very happy to see them. There were kids there that just wouldn't smile until they were givin Orlando Magic T-shirts. They said they would root for them because they showed that they cared. A family told of all the other famous people who had been there but Orlando Magic was the most important to her

I think this was wonderful just for the kindness that they shared with the victims or the hurricane. They say it is the power of sport and it definately brought more hope to these people. Now on the business side of things i think this was great too. Now they will have even more fans just for caring. I think more sports teams should be out helping. It's the power of sports that bring people together even in tragedy.

Freddy Adu scores a spot on the cover of EA's newest soccer game. volume 8 issue 21 page 10.

I remember when Adu first was on the news for the youngest pro soccer play in history. I've watched a couple of his games and seen him play. By the way he plays it doesn't look like he's almost half the age of the players he's playing with or against.

I think it's good for him to be on the front of a game. He may not been playing soccer forever but he does give the sport of soccer more fans. The reason why is because he's so young compared to the other pro athletes in his sport. It's something new in the sport and when ever there is something new in a sport it can help with the sport or hurt the sport. In this case it helps the sport of soccer some, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that everybody watches soccer now because of him but he's probably helped a little.

EA sports has given him a multiyear endorsmeent deal, 1 million contract with Nike and other deals with Campbell Soup Co., Pepsi Co and an
Arlington, Va. bases BMW dealership which gets him close to a 2 million dollars worth. I say good job to him and good luck.

Bobcats say arena will have some sound improvements. volume 8 issue 22.

Your trying to watch the game and the ref blows his whistle and making these hand signals but you have no idea what they mean. So the ref goes over the load speaker to tell what happen but you don't understand what he's saying and you miss it.

The NBA sport team Bobcats have said that they have taken care of the noise problem while staying under the budget of $265 million. Instead of installing a centralized speaker system the Bobcats designed the arena to have distributed speakers throughout the arena. Designed by Dallas-based PMK Consultants. Preparing for the teams Nov. 5 home opener. Which the Rolling Stones open the arena October 21.

In the older arenas they have glass doors in the suites, but this new arena didn't do that. They say that without the glass doors the noises will not be bounceing back and forth when the crowd is yelling. So there will not be much echoing through the arena.

Some Like Look of NBA dress code
Volume 8 Issue 22

This article explains the new decision on dress code for the NBA. They want their players to set a good example and look presentable. President Antonio Davis says they way the players are dressing is not representing the league very well. The dress code includes wearing a sport coat, slacks, and dress shoes when arriving to a game or any league business. They are also now enforcing fines for not meeting their agreement.

I think its a good idea to enforce a dress code for professional sports. It makes them look more professional and represents their team in a better way that sweatpants and jeans would. Alot of high schools even make their basketball players dress in slacks and ties. I think a dress code would bring more respect from the fans. Wearing nice clothes and being present at media relations makes the team look more responsible. They don't just look like athletes that only care about basketball, but also about the business side of the NBA.

Volume 8 Issue 23 Page 5

The new look arena for the Dallas Mavericks has introduced two new party suites to accommodate Large groups of fans. They hope to generate up to five hundred thousand dollars of revenue fron the new stylish party suites. They have said the new suites can take care of up to 60 enthusiastic fans for both basketball and hockey fans. The suites hope to open in the next few weeks for the Starts fans to enjoy. The new addition to the stadium includes fifty-two inch hi definition LSD televisions, auxiliary monitors, leather seats and granite floors and countertops. It sounds to me that the facility has made the necessary improvements to take care of its fans. I think that other franchises in the league should take note of what Dallas is doing. Cities around the nation need to understand that today’s sports arena are becoming more and more luxurious. They better start doing something about the lack of amenities, or they will be left in the dust by their competition.

'New Xbox 360 console to hit market'

Microsoft Corp.'s gaming console, Xbox 360 will hit the market on November 22 in the United States. Microsoft goals are designed for the long-term and would like to diversify there gaming audience beyond the traditional base of young males. Sports games are the most stable category when it comes to annual revenue that is produced. Electronic Arts will release four sports title at the launch for the new console. Microsoft does not publish sports titles for its own console will still spend a third of its Xbox ad budget for the launch on sports programming. Not only is sports being promoted to change the age of the audience, but they would also like more females to become interacted with the new console. Other capabilities the console has is playing DVD's and MP3 files and displaying digital photos. They also are developing more family oriented titles in search of that elusive audience.

I think this is a great idea because sports is always going to be around and the fan base that comes with it is enormous. The larger the fan base equals more opportunity of gaining a higher gaming audience. Sports games are entertaining and will always give the average college kid something to do in his down time. I also think it is a pretty good idea that they are trying to reach out to a broader audience by making the console perform a number of different operations. I think this will reach out to more families during the holiday season because it will be a great gift with a possibility of four gifts in one.

"Reality king ready for another round
with 'The Contender” Volume 8 Issue 23 By Khalif Woodard

The Contender' which was viewed by 10+ million people in the United States alone debut its first season this past spring on NBC. It generated even more money ratings because it was watched by everyone else throughout the world. After the first season “The Contender” was cancel for some unknown reason. Because of NBCs crazy move ESPN in additon with Dreamworks Television picked up the show. They will begin airing the second season this upcoming spring in 2006.
My opinion as far as this situation is, NBC probably had a reason for dropping the show even though it had great ratings. It probably was a financial situation, which made it necessary for them to do what they did. ESPN made a great improvement to there network. They capitalized on what may have been a big mistake on the part of NBC. I was a smart move and most likely ESPN will profit greatly over this lucky yet smart move.

Bobcats say arena will have some sound
improvements. volume 8 issue 22 By Khalif Woodard

The NBA sport team Charlotte Bobcats has fixed what may have been one of the most troubling problems in the NBA. They have taken care of the noise problem in there arena while managing to stay under their budget of $265 million. Instead of installing a centralized speaker system the Bobcats have chosen to design the arena so that it has distributed speakers throughout the arena. Also, the designers have chosen to install glass doors so that the echoing problem will be alleviated Designed by Dallas-based PMK Consultants. Preparing for the teams Nov. 5 home opener, in which the Rolling Stones open the arena October 21.

I believe that this is a very good idea for this new organization because, as rookies to the game I believe that will need as much technological advancements as possible to help them out in any way. They are already a struggling team so if they can make any type of upgrades I think that it as a great idea.

"Drew too? Comparison goes only
so far" Volume 8 Issue 21 By Khalif Woodard

The article is about the similarities between to sport agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Todd France. Todd France is a beginner agent who is feeling his way around in order to find out how the business world works, he has dealt with a few big time athletes but not that many. Drew Rosenhaus on the other hand has dealt with many big time athletes because if his popularity and standards, he deals with high profile players. The two are similar in many ways , but u tell the difference between the two because of thier personalities. France tries to stay away from the media unlike Rosenhaus who loves the media. France stays away from the media because he has a law suit with Career Sports and Lonnie Cooper. France tries to make sure that his clients get treated fairly. I like this article because it shows the contrast between very similar agents.

“Gentleman, start your holiday
greetings" Volume 8 issue 20 By Khalif Woodard

Dale Earnhardt Inc. has recently decided to give Eclectik, a card company, a liscence to sell two custom designed holiday cards. Dale Earnhardt and his recently decease father will be on both of the cards . The cards will be sold for $15.00, coming in boxes of twelves and will be available starting at the end of the year. The legacy star and his legacy logo will be featured on Dale Earnhardt Sr. card. His son's car will inlude his race car, which is number 8 and his signature. The company is looking to add other drivers to the portfolio in order to further increase their popularity.
I think that this is a good way for this card company to make more money. They are being represented by a positive sports figure and they are profiting off of that. They could ask for more, and on top of that they are looking forward to adding even more drivers to their already increasing endorsements.

Volume 8 Issue 24 page 7

"Chew on this Earnhardt Jr. plugs energy product"

"I've got a new formula for winning" will be the new catch phrase for XLR8 chews endorsed by NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. BestSweet Inc. is committing nearly five million dollars for this endorsement to happen. These chews will include things such as taurine, ginseng, guarana, caffeine, vitamin B, and a cherry flavor. They are supposingly targeting mens magazines as of now but are looking to expand. I believe that this is something new. I am used to seeing other sports athletes promoting products like this, but not usually a NASCAR driver its usually a Michael Jordan, or Tom Brady. You just never see NASCAR drivers promoting anything but oil or things related to their sport. To me this is a good thing for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his agent to get exposure and to make some money. However, I dont' think this will be a good product. Just because a guy is a good driver doesn't mak m want to chew whatever he is. My neighbor is a good driver that doesn't make me want to go next door and ask him what gum he chews

True to his words Profile: Bob Johnson
Vol 8 Iss 25 Pg. 31

Bob Johnson on January 10, 2003 was not only granted the expansion Charlotte Bobcats and WNBA Charlotte Sting franchises but he also became the first African-American to become the majority owner of a professional sports organization. As of 1997-present Johnson has been the award winner of the Hall of Fame Award by Broadcasting & Cable Magazine, Cablevision Magazine 20/20 Vision Award, NAACP Image Award, the President’s Award from the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, CTAM’s Grand Tam Award, National Women’s Political Caucus’ Good Guys Award and a Distinguished Alumni Award from Princeton University. He didn’t just win these awards off of good fame also holding numerous BOD positions such as Hilton Hotels, NBA Board of Governs, Jazz at Lincoln Center, American Film Institute, Strayer Education, Inc., Johns Hopkins University and Lowe’s Companies. As soon as he became the majority owner of the Bobcats he didn’t stop his generosity, giving one million dollars to the YMCA and created a new basketball identity for Charlotte with the new uptown arena.
This is just a interesting piece, it shows what kind of hard work that one must set out for to be a success. This type of success would be hard to duplicate but as a sort of role model this is a good outline from start to present on what could happen if your mind set becomes reality.

"SkyCam Gets Its Shot"by Andy Bernstein

This article about how ESPNU plans to air the entire Nov.5 Virginia- Tech vs. Miami football game using SkyCam. Insted of just using it for replays ESPNU's General Manager Burke Maggnus plans to use it for regular gameplay.ESPNU claims that if this telecast goes good they may try NBA games. THey say that it isn't a financial difficulty because it cost the same amount of money as a regular broadcast, which is about $30,000.
I think that this is a very interesting idea because it brings a new dimension to viewing the game. I think that this gives you a more up and close view to the game, which will bring you closer to action. If this works out good I wouldn't mind watching once in a while.
