Vol. 9, Iss. 37. Pg. 12, Sports positioned as gateway to Asia
I really like how this article starts out, “Australia, however, is an outdoorsy, rugged country that prides itself on physical fitness…” This to someone that is in our line of business shows a couple of things.
Of course the laymen will say that it helps to know that you can go anywhere in the world and find a sports economy, also working in the sports world it also tells us that the demand for jobs, marketing, and all around business needs attention. As I read this article it is very obvious that Australia, and Asia do not finance their larger revenues as we do in the west. Therefore this can tell us that either we have to either open our minds a little differently, or bring out western ways over to these countries.
This article could be referred to as a defining moment or watershed type of article. It refers to two countries that are opening their eyes and mind in the sports economy, seeing that weather it is an interstate league, international league, or a venue that may come once a year is a worth wild market to be involved in.
As far as broadcasting these sports such as rugby, soccer, football, basketball, tennis, NASCAR, cricket, ect. the principal sports cable broadcaster in Australia is Fox Sports. And the normal league sponsors are generally mixed of local companies and large international conglomerate.

"GM, Gatorade stay in the game and renew with MLB" V-10, I-46, P-3
The Major League Baseball and two major companies have renewed their sponsorship agreements for three and five years respectively. General motors and gatorade have both signed on to working with major league baseball to promote their products and the MLB. I think that this is a great deal for all companies involved because nothing says American like baseball and General Motors. These are two organizations that have been around for a long period of time who are based on America's past-time. I think that Gatorade will always be a sponsor in every major professional sport, because they have made their beverage part of the sports culture.
I definitely think that MLB baseball is gong forward and the market is still strong after the post-steroid era. I think they might be investigating steroid use a little to hard, but the problems they face are there are no ways to test for HGH. I think that the sponsors understand that baseball making the changes to their game will only reflect positively on their products because they are making the right decision in the public. GM is also planning on improving their cars by producing more environment friendly cars. I like the partnerships that MLB baseball has made, I think it will help to rebuild their image in this new era of baseball.
